Jim is a seasoned organization development professional with experience in both non-profit and Fortune 500 organizations. He is known for his ability to listen deeply to his clients, strategically view a problem and quickly facilitate his clients towards a viable solution. He has a unique capacity to “say what is so” and intervene in a way that is authentic and sincere, and in a way that inspires his customers to own the impact they have on their people and their business.
Jim has 25 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry with AstraZeneca LLC, where he focused on helping leaders and teams achieve their business goals by attending to “how” people and teams get work done. As an internal organization development consultant, Jim has worked with leaders and teams in sales, managed markets, marketing, and research & development. He has extensive experience and expertise in the areas of leadership development & executive coaching, team effectiveness, team coaching, change management, and strategic planning. In particular Jim has done extensive work around influencing without authority and stakeholder management in the context of a highly matrixed, global organization.
Over his career Jim held various positions in sales and marketing, training and development, and sales leadership prior to becoming an organization development and change consultant. During that time, Jim was part of a team that supported the start up of the joint venture between Merck & Co., Inc. and Astra Pharmaceuticals to create AstraMerck, and acquired extensive organization design experience as the team developed team/functional unit structures and processes to support the sales organization.
In the non-profit sector, Jim has done strategic planning for the governing body of a large non-profit organization in the Philadelphia area, and led the collaborative development and implementation of a strategic plan for a community organization in Swarthmore, PA. He is currently serving on the board of a community organization in Center City, Philadelphia, which serves the needs of a highly diverse & disparately advantaged population. He is on the advisory board for the Philadelphia Region Organization Development Network.
Jim holds a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and a Master of Science in Organization Development from American University/National Training Laboratories in Washington, DC, where he received an Award of Distinction for his Masters thesis on ‘Building Accountability in Non-profit, Volunteer Organizations.’ Upon graduation he was also inducted into Pi Alpha Alpha National Honor Society.
